A private villa ceremony with room to breathe
Jane and Lucas came from Canada and chose a small ceremony by the lake with only their closest people. The scale of the day meant the photography could stay close to the real interactions instead of building the schedule around a large production.
The strongest elopement photographs are rarely the most complicated ones. Privacy, good light, enough travel time and a setting where the couple can actually relax matter more than adding more locations.

Using the lake as part of the story, not just a backdrop
After the ceremony we moved onto the lake by Riva boat and later photographed around Menaggio. That gave the story three distinct layers: the private ceremony, movement across Lake Como, and a more relaxed village portrait session.
A boat is most useful when it fits the timeline naturally. It can be transport, a breather after the ceremony and a portrait opportunity at the same time. That is usually better than adding a long boat shoot simply because Lake Como is famous for them.
03
Privacy
A smaller guest list only feels intimate if the location and timing protect that privacy.
04
Movement
Boats, docks and village transfers need real time in the schedule. Rushing them destroys the relaxed feeling.
05
Light
Lake Como changes quickly as mountains create shade. Portrait timing matters more than trying to visit every famous view.

Lake Como elopement questions
A compact elopement can work with shorter coverage, while a ceremony plus boat ride, village portraits, family time and dinner usually benefits from a longer half-day plan. The timeline matters more than an arbitrary number of hours.
Yes. A boat ride can work as both transport and portrait time. I normally suggest building it around realistic boarding time, lake traffic and the light rather than treating it as a separate styled shoot.
Yes. Small ceremonies are often ideal for documentary photography because the focus stays on the couple, family and atmosphere rather than production.
My Lake Como wedding venue guide compares villas, hotels, logistics, guest counts and costs. For a small elopement, privacy, access and a realistic Plan B matter more than choosing the largest venue.

Planning something small on Lake Como?
Send me the date, ceremony location or shortlist, guest count and whether you are considering a boat, dinner or second location. I can recommend a realistic photography timeline before you decide how much coverage you need.
