Eltham Palace Wedding Photographer

Jasmin and Tom are both architects, so Eltham Palace was a natural setting for their wedding. Its architecture and interiors mattered to them from the beginning, while several spells of rain kept changing the light and the rhythm of the day.

Jasmin and Tom at their Eltham Palace wedding in London

01

Why Eltham Palace suited Jasmin and Tom

Architecture was not simply a backdrop for this wedding. Jasmin and Tom are both architects, and they chose Eltham Palace because the building and interiors already had the visual character they wanted around them. That gave the photographs a clear sense of place without needing to manufacture a theme for the camera.

The strongest frames use the building when it adds something to the people in the photograph: a line, a doorway, a reflection or a piece of interior design. Other moments are deliberately simpler. A wedding still has to feel like a wedding rather than an architectural assignment.

02

Photographing the interiors at Eltham Palace

Eltham Palace has strong geometry and richly designed interiors, which make composed portraits possible without adding much to the scene. I look for places where the couple can remain part of the room rather than being separated from it by a tight crop or an artificial pose.

That approach also keeps the gallery varied. Wider photographs explain the setting, medium frames show how people move through it, and close documentary images keep attention on expressions and relationships. The architecture supports the story instead of taking it over.

03

A wedding day shaped by changing weather

It rained several times during Jasmin and Tom’s wedding, so the schedule had to move with the weather. Rather than treating that as a problem, we used the changes. Indoor light, wet outdoor surfaces and brighter gaps between showers all produced different photographs within the same day.

For a London wedding, that flexibility matters more than a rigid portrait timetable. I prefer to keep several short opportunities available and use whichever one gives us the best conditions, rather than making the couple disappear from their guests because a plan written weeks earlier says it is portrait time.

04

Portraits that use the building without feeling staged

With a venue as visually distinctive as Eltham Palace, it is tempting to turn every portrait into a symmetrical architectural composition. I use those frames selectively. A few strong, carefully positioned portraits are enough; the rest can stay looser and more responsive to the couple.

The result is a gallery where the formal photographs belong beside the candid ones. That balance is especially useful for couples who care about design but do not want to spend a large part of their wedding being directed.

05

Keeping the real wedding visible

The original gallery is important because it shows far more than the famous interiors. Family, guests, reactions, movement and the small changes in atmosphere are what turn a venue into a personal wedding story. Those photographs also stop the page becoming a generic guide to Eltham Palace.

My priority during most of the day is observation. I intervene when a group photograph needs organising or a portrait needs a small adjustment, then step back again. That gives the finished story structure without making the wedding feel like a continuous shoot.

06

Planning photography for another Eltham Palace wedding

For another wedding here I would build the photography plan around the ceremony, meal and guest experience first, then identify short portrait windows around them. Weather options should be decided in advance so there is no pressure if rain arrives at exactly the planned outdoor time.

If Eltham Palace is part of your London wedding plans, send me the ceremony time and the basic shape of the day. I can help work out where photography fits naturally before the final timeline is fixed.

Planning questions

Frequently asked questions

Have you photographed a wedding at Eltham Palace?

Yes. The gallery follows Jasmin and Tom’s real wedding at Eltham Palace, with the photographs presented as a complete story.

What happens if it rains at an Eltham Palace wedding?

The venue offers strong interiors, so the photography does not depend on one outdoor window. Jasmin and Tom’s day had several spells of rain and we adjusted the timing as the conditions changed.

How much time do you need for portraits at Eltham Palace?

I prefer short portrait sessions fitted around the wedding rather than one long block. The exact timing depends on the ceremony, dinner schedule, weather and available light.
