Classic Elegance & Altar Takeovers: Sophia & Marthen’s Wedding at Château de Prémesques

Let’s be honest: usually, when you hear “5-star hotel” and “French Château,” you expect a day so stiff no one dares to breathe. But Sophia and Marthen’s wedding in Lille was proof that you can have all the high-end “chic” without losing your sense of humor.

From 18th-century luxury preparations to a vintage car that looked like it jumped out of a movie, their day was a masterclass in Mariage au Château de Prémesques style—complete with a few unscripted moments that stole the show. If you’re planning something similar, see my guide to hiring a wedding photographer in France.

Waking up in Vieux-Lille: The Clarance Hotel Prep

The day kicked off at the Clarance Hotel in the heart of Vieux-Lille. If you haven’t been, it’s basically what happens when history and “cool” have a baby. While Sophia was getting ready in a suite that had more style in its crown molding than I have in my entire closet, the vibe was surprisingly chill.

There’s something about the light in these old Lille townhouses that makes every bridal portrait look like a magazine cover. It’s the perfect spot for a “getting ready” phase—mostly because it’s hard to be stressed when you’re surrounded by that much 5-star aesthetic.

The Green Machine & The Altar Takeover

Once the dress was on, it was time for the “coolest transport” award. They hopped into a vintage green MG cabriolet to head to Église Saint-Vincent in Marcq-en-Barœul. Note to future couples: if you want to feel like a French movie star, get a vintage convertible. Just watch the hair!

The ceremony was beautiful and solemn—right up until the kids decided they’d had enough of the pews. In a move that I can only describe as legendary, a few of the youngest guests decided the floor right in front of the altar was the best seat in the house. They sat there, totally unbothered, watching Sophia and Marthen exchange vows like they were watching Saturday morning cartoons.

Party Time at Château de Prémesques (No Fireworks, Just Vibes)

With the “I dos” done, we headed to the main event: the Château de Prémesques. This place is a dream for an elegant classic wedding. We did the couple portraits with the MG on the grounds, and honestly, the car might have tried to upstage the couple (it failed, but it was close).

The reception was everything a French wedding should be: incredible food, flowing wine, and absolutely no “filler.” They skipped the fireworks—because when you have a crowd this ready to dance, you don’t need pyrotechnics to start a fire on the dance floor.

The night ended with high-energy dancing that proved one thing: Sophia and Marthen know how to throw a party that is both timelessly elegant and ridiculously fun.
