Villa Durazzo
Villa Durazzo elopement near Portofino
An intimate Villa Durazzo elopement with elegant interiors, garden portraits and a calm approach to a smaller Italian Riviera wedding day.
Portofino is easy to describe, but real wedding stories show what matters on the day: light, movement, guests, venue access, harbour crowds, portraits, church timing and evening atmosphere.
Portofino wedding venues
Portofino wedding venues and locations worth considering.
Portofino is compact, beautiful and timing-sensitive. The right venue or nearby location changes the whole rhythm of the wedding day: portraits, guest movement, ceremony access, boats, harbour crowds and evening light. For a fuller shortlist, see my 10 best Portofino wedding venues guide.
Hotel Splendido
Hotel Splendido is one of the most iconic choices for a luxury Portofino wedding, with terraces, gardens, sea views and a polished Riviera feeling. It photographs beautifully when the timeline protects the best light.
Villa Durazzo
Villa Durazzo in nearby Santa Margherita Ligure works well for elopements and elegant intimate weddings near Portofino. It gives interiors, gardens and a calmer rhythm than the harbour itself.
Castello Brown
Castello Brown is a strong option for couples wanting views over Portofino, historic character and a more dramatic setting above the harbour. It needs practical planning around access, timing and guest movement.
San Giorgio Church
San Giorgio Church gives a classic Portofino ceremony feeling with views, history and a strong sense of place. It works best when portraits and guest movement are planned around the church location and harbour flow.
Portofino harbour
The harbour is the image most people imagine when they think of Portofino. It can be beautiful for portraits, but timing matters because crowds, boats and harsh sun can quickly make it feel busy.
Santa Margherita Ligure and private villas
Nearby Santa Margherita Ligure, Rapallo and private Italian Riviera villas can give more space, easier logistics and a calmer base while still keeping Portofino close for portraits or guest experiences.
I wrote a separate guide to the 10 best wedding venues in Portofino, including venue ideas, planning notes and photography considerations for the Italian Riviera.
Italian Riviera wedding photographer
Wedding photography across Portofino, Liguria and the Italian Riviera.
Portofino is the name many couples search for first, but the best wedding plan may include the wider Ligurian coast: Santa Margherita Ligure, Rapallo, Camogli, private villas, coastal hotels and boat movement between locations.
As an Italian Riviera wedding photographer, I look at the full rhythm of the day: where guests stay, where the ceremony happens, how portraits fit around the harbour, and how much movement the timeline can realistically handle.
Portofino is beautiful but small. Nearby locations can give more space, easier logistics and calmer guest movement while still keeping the Portofino feeling in the story.
Portofino
Best for harbour portraits, iconic Riviera views, intimate luxury weddings, Hotel Splendido celebrations and ceremonies with a strong sense of place.
Santa Margherita Ligure
A practical and elegant base near Portofino, especially for Villa Durazzo weddings, guest accommodation, civil ceremonies and a calmer coastal rhythm.
Rapallo and private Riviera villas
Good for couples who want more space, villa privacy, easier guest movement and a full Italian Riviera wedding weekend close to Portofino.
Camogli and the Ligurian coast
Strong for couples who want colourful coastal character, sea views and a less obvious Riviera setting while staying connected to the Portofino area.
Tell me where you are staying, where the ceremony will be, and whether Portofino is the main wedding location or part of a wider Italian Riviera weekend. You can also read the Portofino wedding venues guide for more location ideas.
My approach
Documentary Portofino wedding photography with elegant portraits when the light is right.
Portofino does not need to be over-directed. The harbour, villas, church views, sea light and Riviera atmosphere already give the wedding a strong sense of place. My job is to photograph the day honestly while using the location with care.
I work quietly for the real moments and give calm direction when portraits need structure. The aim is a gallery that feels natural, refined and personal, not like a staged photoshoot around a famous harbour.
That usually comes from simple planning: short portrait windows, realistic movement, good use of shade, careful timing around the harbour and enough space for the wedding to breathe.
Real moments before scenery
Portofino is beautiful, but the strongest photographs still come from people. I focus on reactions, guests, family, ceremony moments, dinner atmosphere and the real movement of the wedding day.
Elegant portraits without taking over the day
I usually prefer short, well-timed portrait sessions rather than long staged shoots. A few minutes in good light often works better than forcing portraits in harsh sun or crowded streets.
Careful timing around harbour crowds
Portofino can become busy quickly. I plan portraits and movement around the real conditions: guests, boats, narrow streets, bright light, heat and limited space near the harbour.
Riviera atmosphere from day into evening
Some of the best Portofino wedding photographs happen later: terrace dinners, speeches, warm evening light, harbour glow, candlelight and guests relaxing into the celebration.
If you are planning a wedding at Hotel Splendido, Villa Durazzo, San Giorgio Church, Castello Brown, a private villa or another Italian Riviera venue, I can help you shape a photography timeline that works with the light, access and real pace of the day.

Portofino wedding planning
How to plan Portofino wedding photography around light, boats and harbour movement.
Portofino is small, beautiful and busy. A strong wedding photography timeline needs to respect the light, guest movement, narrow streets, boat transfers, ceremony access and the natural rhythm of the day. The goal is not to rush around Portofino. The goal is to use it well.
Getting ready at Hotel Splendido, a villa or nearby hotel
Morning coverage works best when the room feels calm and uncluttered. I photograph details, atmosphere, family, friends and quiet preparation moments without turning the morning into a staged shoot.
Church, villa or terrace ceremony coverage
Portofino ceremonies often have a strong sense of place, especially at San Giorgio Church, Hotel Splendido, Castello Brown or nearby villas. The focus is still emotion, guests, family and the real feeling of the ceremony.
Family photographs somewhere calm and organised
Family photographs are important, but Portofino is not the place to improvise a huge list in a crowded public area. A short, organised list keeps this part smooth and avoids stress.
Short portraits in good light
I usually prefer 15 to 30 minutes for couple portraits. Harbour portraits, terraces, gardens and small side streets can all work, but timing matters more than forcing too many locations.
Boat movement and sea-view portraits
Boats can add a beautiful Portofino feeling, but they need realistic timing. If a boat transfer or short sea-view session is part of the day, it should be planned clearly rather than squeezed into an already tight schedule.
Dinner, speeches and Riviera atmosphere
Some of the strongest Portofino wedding photographs happen later in the day: warm light, terrace dinners, speeches, candlelight, harbour glow and guests finally relaxing into the celebration.

Can we do wedding portraits around Portofino harbour?
Yes, but timing matters. Portofino harbour can become crowded and harsh in strong mid-day light. I usually recommend short, well-timed portrait windows rather than forcing a long shoot in busy public areas.
Do you photograph boat portraits in Portofino?
Yes. Boat movement can add a beautiful Italian Riviera feeling, but it should be planned clearly into the timeline. If a boat transfer or short sea-view portrait session is part of the day, it needs realistic timing.
